General information:

Alloy: 1.4724, also known as X10CrAlSi13

Classification: Martensitic stainless steel

Applications: High-temperature applications, heat exchangers, catalytic converters, chemical industry

Chemical composition:

Carbon (C): max. 0.10%
Silicon (Si): 0.30–0.70%
Manganese (Mn): max. 0.50%
Phosphorus (P): max. 0.04%
Sulfur (S): max. 0.03%
Chromium (Cr): 12.00–14.00%
Aluminium (Al): 0.40–1.20%

Physical properties:

Density: 7.80 g/cm³
Melting range: 1420–1460°C
Thermal conductivity: 20–25 W/(m·K)
Electrical conductivity: 15–20% IACS

Mechanical properties:

Tensile strength: 550–700 MPa
Yield strength: 350–550 MPa
Elongation at break: 20–30%
Hardness: 20–25 HRC (Rockwell C)

Heat treatment:

Annealing: Between 750°C and 800°C for 2–4 hours, followed by slow cooling in furnace air.

Corrosion resistance: Alloy 1.4724 offers good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, especially at elevated temperatures. However, it is not suitable for use in aggressive environments with strong acids or chloride ions.

Weldability: Alloy 1.4724 has good weldability. Before welding, however, proper preparation of the weld seam, including preheating and post-treatment, should be ensured in order to avoid unwanted stresses and cracking.
